ABOUT SOUTH AFRICAN STEM CELL INSTITUTE

The South African Stem Cell Institute (SASCI) was established by a handful of medical doctors who shared a keen interest in integrative medicine.

Throughout their careers, in general practice, these doctors noted how dependent patients had become on chronic pain medications which never addressed the source of the ailment. This led them to seek out a more integrative approach to their treatments with a specific interest in nutrition, hormone balance, cellular health and musculoskeletal ailments. These interests eventually led to Prolotherapy as well, which would become the gateway to regenerative medicine.

Through their continuous international training and ongoing research, it was only a matter of time before they would be introduced to stem cell therapy. The outcome-based research and results that were presented during the international training sessions they attended were overwhelming, focusing mainly on the use of adult stem cells and PRP in combination with Prolotherapy in orthopedic conditions. It was the obvious next step to incorporate stem cells into their treatment regime back in South Africa, and the South African Stem Cell Institute was born.

Treating predominantly orthopedic disease and injuries, the facility became essential in the processing and optimization of both PRP and stem cells for these treatment. As research in regenerative medicine advanced, more and more conditions were identified where adult stem cell therapy could prove beneficial. This again transformed the more conventional approaches to illness and disease and attracted many interests from other healthcare practitioners and patients alike in seeking out more holistic approaches to healing.

Due to the growing interest in stem cell therapy and the oceans of information made available daily, a new need was identified within the industry. As regenerative medicine in South Africa is still in its very early stages, the need to establish an industry that is safe and transparent has become our primary goal. Being a first of its kind in South Africa, we at SASCI have shifted our main focus to setting the standard for stem cell therapy through stringent quality control, ongoing international training and aligning with global research and development partners that share our goals.
